Amy Rees Anderson Named 2012 BYU Entrepreneur of the Year by the University’s Rollins Center for Entrepreneurship and Technology

Rollins Center Honored Anderson at the BYU Founders Banquet During Entrepreneurship Week

Anderson Recently Founded REES Capital to Give Guidance and Support to Entrepreneurs and Business Executives; Led MediConnect Global to more than $377 Million Acquisition

SALT LAKE CITY (October 11, 2012) – Amy Rees Anderson, managing partner and founder of mentor capital and angel investment firm REES Capital, has been named the 2012 Brigham Young University Entrepreneur of the Year by the Rollins Center for Entrepreneurship and Technology.

Anderson is the first woman to receive this honor, which recognizes an individual’s business acumen and accomplishments and is selected by the Rollins Center Founders Board before being approved by the Marriott School of Management. The award was given on Oct. 4, 2012 at the BYU Founders Banquet during the university’s Entrepreneurship Week.

“Amy personifies our aim to recognize successful entrepreneurs who demonstrate exceptional leadership and high moral and ethical standards,” said Scott R. Petersen, managing director of the Rollins Center for Entrepreneurship and Technology. “But Amy is much more than a talented entrepreneur and business leader; she is also devoted to her family and strives to find balance in all areas of her life. These qualities make her an excellent role model for students and individuals seeking their own paths to success — just the kind of values we are striving to promote at the Rollins Center at BYU.”

Earlier this month, Anderson launched REES Capital to provide entrepreneurs and business executives critical guidance and support to help their companies grow. In addition to seeking out opportunities for potential equity investments, REES Capital provides expert mentoring and consulting services across a broad range of business functions, including leadership training; product and market assessment; marketing, sales and public relations strategy; financial modeling; organizational structuring; strategic planning; acquisition and exit strategy; and other key areas.

For nearly nine years, Anderson led all aspects of MediConnect Global, a worldwide leader in medical record retrieval, digitization and management, and one of the largest cloud-based health information exchanges. Under her direction, the company grew to more than 1,000 employees worldwide and achieved 1,500 percent growth since 2004. In March 2012, Verisk Analytics acquired MediConnect for more than $377 million.
